It just makes sense. Gay men should be able to give blood like everyone else. This article talks about Senator Kerry’s and 16 other Senator’s letter to the Food and Drug Administration to lift the ban on gay men donating blood. The ban was put in place in 1983, at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis and before modern screening and advanced testing methods for HIV were developed. In the mist of natural disasters and an increasing need for blood, this ban is outdated and needs to go. This is good news and shines light on the discriminatory manner of some laws. So if now the government can acknowledge that sexuality should not effect medically giving blood; maybe then they can acknowledge that it should not effect other things, like enlisting in the Armed Forces. Gay men… GIVE BLOOD!!!
