On April 24, a building which had 5 factories full of garment workers collapsed, crushing hundred of workers under concrete and metal. The death toll rises above 650 people. Authorities say there are still bodies under the wreckage and relief efforts are still underway. They say heavy machinery and generators are to blame. Companies like Loblaw, the largest retailer in Canada, discount brand Joe Fresh was made in these factories. They vowed to stay in Bangladesh and crack down on local codes and building regulations. Disney used to have production in Bangladesh but pulled out of the country after a factory fire killed 112 people. Other clothing companies have not released a statements on whether or not they will continue production in Bangladesh…

Which raises this week’s Mo-Question::: Should Western Companies with merchandise made in Bangladesh stay or leave? Bangladesh is the second largest apparel exporter outside of China and apparel accounts for 77% of their exports. Many argue that leaving does not change the conditions and others argue that the risk of staying is too high…

So what do you think? If you were a CEO of a merchandise brand who had production set up in Bangladesh factories where hundreds died…would you stop production in Bangladesh? or would you stay and push for stronger regulations?
